Plan and Book Your Flights in Advance
Although it may seem easy to fly with a low-cost airline, you can get discounted tickets if you book well in advance. My flights to Amsterdam were with KLM, the national airline. There was nothing cheap about this airline. My flights were cheaper than I would have paid if Easyjet had been my first choice. Although it seemed like the cheapest option at first glance, I found that there was no baggage allowance and taxes and fees made the KLM flight more expensive. KLM flights offered additional amenities, such as free snacks and drinks, working air conditioning, flip-up TV screens, and other comforts you wouldn’t expect from a low-cost airline. To get the early bird rate, book at least two months in advance.
Find Cheap Accommodation With Good Quality in Amsterdam
There are many budget hostels and hotels to choose from. But I wanted something affordable and also had cooking facilities. Although houseboats are an option, my inner ear issues prevented me from traveling during my vacation. After a few recommendations, I found the Bema Hotel, which offers apartments at a similar price to decent hotels. Its location was ideal, close enough to the city center to walk to, but far enough away from the noise and revelers of downtown. It was well equipped with a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a studio bedroom. You can also get a discount if you stay 3 nights or more.
Enjoy the Street Foods and Budget Restaurants

Meat West and Fish&Season are the two restaurants that you can enjoy various delicious Dutch cuisine at reasonable prices. Although the prices are low, the quality of the food is top-notch. Moreover, the chefs are highly professional. So, you won’t waste your money here.
It’s best to go to the supermarket to buy food if you don’t mind paying the high tourist prices. Lidl stores are a blessing to me. They allow you to recognize most of the products in the store without any language barrier. Lidl had enough food for the four days. This included drinks and dessert. This is a great option for budget travelers who don’t want to spend too much on a meal for two at a restaurant. You can experiment with your meals if you have a kitchen in your accommodation. However, there are many quick and easy options, such as using a kettle and many sandwiches. Ask your hotel if they have a microwave, stove, or refrigerator to store snacks.
